Seriously, I LOVE This….

Yes, I love this….well, I love the teaching part!  I really enjoy my kids as well.  On the other hand, Institute work & lesson planning isn’t quite as much fun, but I guess that’s important too!

Week 3 of Institute is almost over…and that means just 2 weeks left here in Chicago – I can’t believe how fast time is flying!  Before I know it, I’ll be back in Detroit in front of my own classroom – making my own lesson plans, implementing my own classroom management plan, and getting to know my students – I can’t wait!  I keep thinking about what my first day will be like in the fall – I’m trying to imagine what my classroom will look like, who my students will be, and what I’ll be wearing.  It’s crazy to think that my first day of teaching is less than 2 months away…

Today was the last day of the summer school semester, so it was the last day of summer school for a few of my students as well.  On Monday, I’ll also have a few new students joining my Geometry class for the 2nd semester summer school session.  I’m very pleased by the growth of my students – it’s very exciting to see all of the progress they have made over the course of the last few weeks.  As we’re all becoming more familiar with geometry and each other, I can really start to see the culture of my classroom develop and I’m so excited for that.  Although I’m sad to see some of my students go, I’m exited for what lies ahead of them and I can’t wait to meet my new students!  They have all been so patient & kind as we go through this learning experience together!

Things for me to work on 2nd semester…

  • Being a little bit more strict…as one student said ;)
  • My geometric drawing abilities (I’m not an art teacher for a reason)
  • Catching all of those students texting in class. Yep, I’m that teacher now…
  • Getting to bed earlier….5:43am comes way too early

This truly is a joyful job – I leave class with a smile on my face each day with multiple things to laugh about.  Yes, I occasionally shake my head too, but the good far outweighs the bad.  I can hardly wait to see what they amuse me with on Monday…
